Abstract
This paper discusses the design process and concepts behind House Floating in the Forest. The small house is located on the southeastern border of the Aichi Prefectural Forest. The forest was established as a nature and recreational area within the city. As the house is situated in a residential area next to the forest, the location is close to being ideal. Along the north and west sides of the house, a narrow road lined by sparse foliage on one side and a line of cherry trees on the other, runs approximately 3 meters below the plot of land. To the south, an open space has been inconspicuously left for parking, but the surrounding foliage has been left untouched. Looking east from the second floor, the magnificent view of the surrounding foliage and Mt. Sanage in the distance combine to create the intended effect of a house floating across the forest.
