Abstract
Three kilometers northwest of Nagoya Station, and an eight-minute walk from the Honjin subway station, lies an old residential and shopping district. Torii Avenue, a beltline designed by the city, cuts through the area. The beltline, which gets a great amount of traffic, including many large trucks, is lined with commercial structures typical of a busy downtown area. As such, it is difficult to see it as an area fit for human habitation. However, tucked away just off the main thoroughfare in the former downtown district there are houses and old wooden apartment buildings, which make up a quiet a residential area. The guiding principle of the work described in this paper was to create a house which would blend into the peace and tranquility of hidden away nook amidst the bustling urban sprawl.
