Abstract
This paper investigates effective teaching methods for listening comprehension. Over a period of six years, students were
tested to see how much their listening comprehension ability improved. The following procedure was used: (1) A listening
pre-test was carried with new students every April, (2)30 lessons (45 hours) were carried out annually, (3)Shadowing was taught as
a means to increase listening comprehension skill, (4)A listening post-test was carried out every February.
As a result, the deviation score was found to have increased around 10 points each year. Some important matters on
instruction are pointed out in this paper.
