Abstract
A survey was conducted among 204 college freshman to investigate their cooking habits. Almost all of them lived in the Tokai area (Gifu, Aichi, and Mie Prefectures), and 72% of them lived with their families. We found that students living with their families rarely prepared meals at home. However, more than 55% of them liked cooking and less than 7% of them disliked it. Having a specialty dish, the frequency or time spent for preparing a meal depended on whether they like or dislike cooking. We found that we must consider the contents of cooking practices because some of them could not prepare Japanese stocks, could not peel apples, and could not cook fish.
