Abstract
This paper traces the historical background of haiku (traditional Japanese short poems) and haiga (seasonal picture-poem of Japan) in the first stage and analyzes the mechanism of the primal scene of human heart from the various aspects of philosophical approach, literal feature, psychological hypothesis, and architectural style in the second stage. According to the historical map of haiku poets, we pick up the famous haiku and haiga created by the outstanding haiku poets in Edo period, that is, the three haiku masters; Basho Matsuo, Buson Yosa, and Issa Kobayashi who founded the main stream of traditional short poems in Japan in the third stage. In the last stage, we also refer to the significance and evaluation for the primal image of haiku and haiga.
